An unspoilt corner of the Costa Tropical, La Herradura translates the english word horshshore. La Herradura is a horseshoe shaped bay with hills to the east and the west. It is a clean and sheltered beach, sandy and pebbly, with low rise low density buildings. There are relatively few people and it is uncrowded and quiet. Its a refuge from the busy and overcrowded resort of Almuñecar. For some curious reason its also a refuge from jelly fish. When there is a plague of jelly fish on other parts of the Costa del Sol La Herradura seems to be free.
The village itself is small so forget big shops or fashion stores.
There is a handful of chiringuitos across the beach all of which are good. There is nothing better than looking across the bar at La Herradura with a glass of cool white wine on the beach and some fresh fish at one of the chiringuitos.
There is a small sailing and windsurfing school where you can hire equipment and where they will take you out in a dingy or catamaran.
There is also a dive centre where you can learn tos cuba dive and where they will take you out by boat the the best local dice sites.
To the the East is Punta de la Mona and Marina D’Este. Punta de la Mona is a very sought after área. A whole range of property has been built here from James Bond villas on the rocks by the sea to apartments with community pools. Plots are rare and pricey and worth having because of the location, style, the unspoilt nature of the environment, the beach, the views and the marina.
Marina D’Este is a small port for leisure boats with a handful of nice restaurants and a dive centre.
To the West is Cerro Gordo a beautiful natural park that is heavily protected. There are plots available.
From the hills behind the village the views are wonderful.

This is not the place for night time action or glamorous hotels. Those can be found in the neighbouring town of Almuñecar.
